Update on California hygienists

This information was written by Katie Dawson, the former CDHA president. It offers more insight on dental hygienists in California becoming a self-governed profession. I thought it would be worth sharing. --Mark CDHA Celebrates Passage of SB853 (Perata), our Legislation for Self-Regulation! Imagine an autonomous dental hygiene profession without oversight by the Dental Board of California. SB853 makes the autonomous Dental Hygiene Committee of California a reality that becomes effective July…

Good news for California hygienists

It's late on a Friday night, and I'm getting ready to head to Dallas for a wedding. But my good friend Tricia Osuna just sent this news from the West Coast. Hip hip hooray for California! I'll comment more on it later. Mark Ending several decades of struggle by California dental hygienists to achieve independence as a distinct public health profession, Governor Schwarzenegger today signed Senate Bill 853 (Perata). The measure creates the Dental Hygiene Committee a new regulatory body housed u…

Sunstar/RDH Award of Distinction recipients

Just in case you missed it coming to the community site, this press release appears on the home page of the Web site: Sunstar Americas and RDH magazine identified the eight recipients of the 2008 Sunstar/RDH Healthy Gums, Healthy Life Award of Distinction, a group that included the first Canadian to be honored during the award’s seven-year history. Ann Foppe, a marketing director for Sunstar Americas, notified the recipients in early May after three judges moderated by RDH magazine determined…

Our fair for technology, everything but the corn dogs

The DDS Tech Fair is our third virtual dental conference. Many of the hygienists in our community know what we mean by "virtual" since the first two, simply called RDH Event, were for hygienists. The third virtual dental conference is called DDS Tech Fair, and it is scheduled for June 6-7. Where? To me, the virtual conferences mean I can leave the suitcase in the closet, since all I do is turn on the computer to wander from the seminars to the exhibit floor and then back to lounge where everyo…

Member #199! Congratulate her! Send her a note. Do you know how?

At some point today or overnight, we'll have the 200th member join this site. Ought to celebrate, huh? Instead of toasting #200, anyone want to toast Member #199? Her name is Susan Fredericks, and she's one of Deb Hartley's pals who joined the site earlier today. Hip hip hooray to Susan! Send her a note. Not a comment. Send her a private note. Do you know how? This brings up one of the hardest things I had to get used to with this site. See that PennWell Web site banner ad up there. Huge, ai…

Hi Mark,
www.healthoutreach.ca
Here is the website with some info on volunteering. I know they are often in need of Dentists to volunteer. This would be my first time for me. The application deadline is Aug 8th for the Jan09 trip. I have had colleagues go and although exhausting it sounded so rewarding.
Good Luck-Liliana

Sounds great, Mark. I will definitely spread the word. Do we have to sign up for the course ahead of time or is it considered a general session?

i think if you stick to a fewer number of topics and really get into them in detail, the search engines might find them easier than touching briefly on too many items. glad you liked the column!

Hi Mark!

This is a very interesting site! My buddy, Auggie, told me about it and "insisted" that I join. You know that Auggie, he can be very persuasive(:!

Nice to be on board; looking forward to seeing you again, Mark, at RDH Roof!

I love this ... I was thinking... can this be made into a digest format that is delivered daily instead of just individual emails coming to my account?

Also what is the best way to ensure I don't miss anything? Do you have a direction page I have missed ... instructions on how to best utilize this site?
