How to Get and Retain a Better Smile

A first impression is very hard to get off your mind. It is, therefore, important to work on your smile. A bright and cheerful smile makes you to look younger and more attractive. According to research carried out, an attractive smile can make a person more appealing. Working on your smile does not only benefit the body, but, rather, it benefits the whole body. The mouth is the gateway to the rest of the body. This means that the state of your oral health affects the overall health of the body. To maintain your oral health leading to a bright smile, there are steps that need to be followed.

Ensure that you brush regularly: The general health of your mouth relies much on how often you brush. Brushing regularly, at least two times a day, is recommended as it removes the food particles that bacteria can feed on. Brushing also cleans your teeth and freshens your breath. While brushing, you should use a tooth paste that contains fluoride because it is essential in strengthening your teeth. However, as great as toothpaste containing fluoride works, it is important to brush for at least two minutes to allow the fluoride to do its job.

Ensure that you floss daily: In addition to brushing, flossing your teeth daily helps remove the bacteria between your teeth that your toothbrush can not reach. It is also important in preventing gum disease. Just like brushing, it is recommended that you floss twice a day. If you chose to leave it to only once a day, it is better to floss before you go to bed because you produce less saliva leaving your teeth and gums more vulnerable to bacteria.

Pay your dentist a visit: To keep your teeth and gums healthy, it is recommend you visit your dentist at least every six months for thorough dental cleanings. This helps in treating the disease before it can spread and become complicated. If you are prone to gum diseases, it is recommended that you should visit your dentist at least after every four months.

Eat a healthy diet: Eating food that is rich in calcium, such as kale, is important for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Vitamin C, which can be found in citrus fruits, helps boost gum health. Equally, you should avoid sugary foods that can stick to the crevices of your teeth. This is because bacteria feed on them and release acids that cause cavities. Once you eat the sugary foods, it is important to brush right after and rinse your mouth with lots of water.
