Recently, several people have come on to the PennWell dental community to post blogs about everything ranging from Flip camera reviews to preventing yeast infections. In the past, we have had an open policy when it comes to posting, but these non-dental posts have become too prevalent. Therefore, all blog posts will now be approved before being allowed to be seen on the community.
Thank you for your understanding.

Happiness is difficult to define and even harder to measure. We experience it as a combination of elements, in the same way that one wheel or spring inside a watch doesn't keep time - it is a result of the synchronicity of the whole. As a relative state, happiness is what psychologists call our subjective well-being and, fortunately for us, it is a state that we can actively change for the better. Here are 20 ways to start.
Everyone longs for happiness, but few possess it. The… Continue

Mary Beth Bajornas, VA, CMT
What is the hand-off protocol in your office?
Typically in many dental offices the clinical team member walks the patient to the front desk with the patient’s chart under their arm. When they reach the desk they “plop” the chart down, tells the Appointment Coordinator that the patient is done, looks at the patient and says,… Continue

Many people have asked me about techniques for coping more effectively with stress.
Although I send some of them for counseling or psychotherapy when symptoms are severe, most are looking for practical ways to manage stress on their own. They want to take responsibility for handling their own problems observing their inadequate methods of dealing with stress, learning new techniques to improve their habits, and then practicing these techniques on a regular basis. (or you may… Continue

First I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Walter, and I represent MK Dental Studio in southern California. I have been involved in the dental industry for about 9 years and at the moment I am the V.P. of marketing here at MK. Now with that being said I have gotten a chance to work for high production labs and also smaller ‘boutique style’ labs. One thing that I have always taken away from any lab is that a dentist is always looking for that hidden treasure in a new… Continue

The recording is available for free, for a limited time.

Here’s how most dentists track the results of their advertising. They ask the receptionist, “How’s that ad campaign going?” And she will say one of two things: “It’s great — got a new patient yesterday.”
Or, “It stinks — nothing but losers and shoppers.”
And based on that response, the dentist makes a decision to continue or abandon the advertising.
Unfortunately, this decision is being made based on anecdotes, not facts. These questions generate a response that is more… Continue
