Recently, ESPN put out an interesting article on energy drinks and the effects they're having on today's youth. The article was picked up by the FDA and pushed out in their "NewsWatch" e-newsletter. I hope you'll take a few moments to read the article, watch the video, and think about what's being said. I was very surprised.
I know that… Continue

Tonight is a big night for me and my 12-year-old daughter. We'll be heading down the Turner Turnpike from Tulsa to Oklahoma City to cheer on the Thunder in their season-opening NBA matchup against the Chicago Bulls. We're season-ticket holders and it's a good time for my daughter and me to catch up, chat, and for her to watch some of the best athletes in the world play a sport that she loves to play as well.
Since the Thunder relocated to Oklahoma City from Seattle, I've… Continue

An update on Carl the dentist (John Stamos) on Glee. He can dance and sing! I suppose since Stamos has been in several Broadway productions it makes sense Glee would use him for a production, and last night he was Eddie in "Rocky Horror." He wore black leather, made his entrance on a motorcycle, and sang "Whatever Happened to Saturday Night?"

I actually found a dental angle for my favorite show -- Mad Men! I was reading one of my favorite recaps of the show when what should the comments turn to but Megan's teeth!
The commenter inquired, "Does anyone know if Megan's teeth actually belong to the actress or are being worn as part of the character? They sure look real. Frankly… Continue

So you've decided its time to remodel your practice based upon a number of factors like old age, worn finishes, out dated technology, or maybe just wanting to be part of the consciences of being a green dental office. But did you ever think that there was also one major issue that needed to be reviewed as well. One issue that could tie your practice up in a lawsuit for non compliance. And it would not be an OSHA or a HIPPA issue. But one of ADA compliance!
Now I know that most… Continue

I was wondering what other offices use communicating. I run between both my hygienists in the back and when i get a phone call or someone needs me they have to track me down. We just have a simple phone system. I wanted to check into getting perhaps a cordless headset so when i have a call they just notify me and i can take it or tell them to take a message. Is there anything out there like this?

Teen celebrity Alyson Stoner, best known for her roles in Step Up 3 and Camp Rock 1 and 2 (but I remember as Sarah Baker in Cheaper by the Dozen), is talking about oral health for teens and hopes her peers will listen.
Those of us in the dental world are happy to hear from her. Teens tend to listen to their peers, and Alyson seems sincere in her efforts to get teens on board with good oral health.
"Fifty-one million hours are spent at the dentist's office instead of school every… Continue

I'm sitting in Macua, China, listening to Dr. Paul Child of CR Foundation speak to the crowd during the second day of the World Dental Forum, sponsored by Modern Dental Laboratory. It's a great mix of dentists and lab personnel from all over the world.
Here are some of Dr. Child's thoughts as I listen to him during his 90-minute presentation...
There is no silver bullet for every patient. Any product that comes out and says that it can fix everything in every situation… Continue

This site has a name (teens.aol.com) that indicates it's for a teenaged audience, yet I found their take on worst celebrity teeth quite enjoyable. There are 15 (keep clicking if the screen comes up empty) celebrities featured with tongue-in-cheek opinions about their bad teeth and gums.
I believe some of them have made changes or repairs, for instance, Hillary Duff received so much criticism about her chiclet teeth (which I'm sure she paid a fortune for) that she had them… Continue

I added video recaps for the first two days of the ADA Annual Session, so I thought I'd write a little about the third day of the show. Show rhymes with slow, and that's what the third day was. Many exhibitors asked me why the show was Saturday-Monday this year and I think a lot of people were wondering that with the less-than-awesome attendance in the exhibit hall.
Overall, I think exhibitors will tell you that Sunday was the best day on the show floor while the bookend days were… Continue

A popular dentist in Alexander City, Alabama, Dr. George Hardy, doesn't talk much about his movie acting days. Turns out he's one of the main players in the 1990 movie "Troll 2." No, I hadn't heard of it either. But now it's the subject of a new documentary, "Best Worst Movie." "Troll 2" has also built up a cult following over the years, drawing crowds at art house theaters and midnight showings.
According to the article on montgomeryadvertiser.com, Dr. Hardy is… Continue

My practice consist of: 6 monthers, 3 & 4 mth recalls. So i have a list of pts to call when i get an opening because my schedule changes all the time. Any suggestions?
