Response to Joyal's column on dental insurance

Dr. Fred Joyal, the co-founder of 1-800-Dentist, posted a very thought-provoking blog titled, “Further Thoughts on James Dwyer and Dental Insurance,” on May 30. He starts off with two very true statements that should chill the bones of any dental professional — due to just the sheer truth of them:

“First, the dental patient doesn’t really care if the…

Sofia Vergara knows acting ... and teeth!

Who knew? Well, some of you may have known. Sofia Vergara, otherwise known as Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family, studied pre-dentistry at the University of Colombia for three years, and, she's "obsessed" with good oral hygiene. What was dentistry's loss is Hollywood's gain.

I saw the interesting tidbit while reading People magazine on my tablet. I "clicked here" to read more about Vergara, and it said she studied dentistry. So I verified the news online.

According to Wikipedia,…

Your treatment plan is showing ;)

We are seeing more and more ‘dental shoppers’ in our practice these days. Coming in for a second opinion because the first dentist recommended a significant treatment plan and they want to compare what we think. Patients bring in the treatment plan from the other practice and after we give our recommendations, they share it with us. I see London, I see France, I see Aspen’s treatment plan!

Recognizing that this is a new trend – what does your treatment plan look like?…

Charlize Theron lacked teeth until age 11

Of course she's gorgeous today, but Charlize Theron, who most recently starred in "Young Adult," is the acclaimed actor she is today because she only had "fangs" until she was 11.

“My early childhood was quite devastating. I had no teeth until I was 11," the star told The Sun in the UK.

“I had these fangs because I had jaundice when I was a kid and I was put on so many antibiotics that my teeth rotted. They had to cut them out. So I never had milk teeth (called baby teeth in…

Keeping everyone on the same page in a multi-dentist practice

The main role of an administrator in a multiple dentist group practice is that of communication. Each dentist wants to know what’s going on and no one likes to feel they are out of the loop. In a busy, multiple dentist practice, this is no small trick!

One of my keys to communication is having regular meetings with an agenda. Just like a dentist…

"Dentist of the Stars" keeps the celebs teeth!

Really? TMZ reported that "Extreme Makeover" dentist Dr. Bill Dorfman keeps some of the teeth that he's extracted from the mouths of celebrities. I ask again. Really?

At least he asks them if they want to keep their teeth first. He said they usually say no, so he hangs on to some of them. Why? Why else? To possibly make a buck in the future.

"I totally have like a secret stash of famous people's teeth, and I figure one day, maybe, I don't know," he can sell them on eBay or…
