I recently wrote a blog post after talking to a dentist in Boise, Idaho, about how he used his Web site (You can read it by clicking here
). In my continuing series on dentists and how they use their Web sites, I want to introduce you to Dr. Robert Nelson of Falmouth, Maine, a community located just north of Portland.
I came across Dr. Nelson's Web site and found it to be very clean,… Continue

Hey there! My name is Dr. Moore and I specialize in General Dentistry. I have completed and found these CMEs to be very useful so I thought I’d share them with everyone.
Here’s a description of what they’re about: “Joslin Diabetes Center, through the Professional Education Department, produces continuing medical education (CME) for healthcare providers involved in all aspects of diabetes care. In line with this vision, Joslin has developed a comprehensive, longitudinal platform for… Continue

Dental consumers sometimes think that a dentist who charges more may provide the best dental implant care. This attitude stems from the often-held belief that if something is expensive it is automatically better. I do not believe this logic is applicable in choosing from whom and where you will obtain dental implant care.
You, the potential dental consumer, should learn what exactly you are paying for, especially when you select pricy versus… Continue

In a recent blog post, I wrote that my firm has seen an explosion of inquiries about marketing since Jan 1. I don't know if that is a trend yet or not, but I can say that none of the dentists who are calling us are excited about our supposed "recovery."
Rather, they are sick of passively waiting.
What do you think?
BTW the full post is here… Continue

I just returned home from attending service at Destiny Church in Broken Arrow, Okla. During service, a video was shown of an interview with Noble Doss, a legendary receiver for the University of Texas in the early 1940s who went on to win a world championship with the Philadelphia Eagles. You can watch the video by clicking on the link below.

Legendary film producer Samuel Goldwyn once famously said that he’d take 50 percent efficiency to gain 100 percent loyalty.
While I highly doubt he was talking about dental practices, the sentiment applies to our industry in a big way. Patient loyalty is essential to dental practice success.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “My patients are loyal to me.” But the truth is, while the majority of your patients may be satisfied with you as their dentist, that… Continue

Everyone has his or her own perspective regarding money, wealth and riches. The perspective depends partly on how you were raised, your parents’ relationship with money, what you’ve observed, what you’ve experienced, your teachers, mentors and guides, with whom you spend the most time and how much you’ve been impacted by media.
In America, where we are preoccupied with money and the accumulation of it, most people associate wealth with money – lots of money. But the wealthiest man in… Continue

Managed Care Plans-To Join or Not to Join
By Kathleen O'Donnell, VP of Coaching
We are enmeshed in an economic slowdown the likes of which has not been experienced for decades. Some struggling practices are tempted to sign up with insurance plans and may not go about it in an effective way. There can be some valid reasons to evaluate the pros and cons of becoming a participating provider. Like a start-up dental practice, sometimes having managed care patients in the chairs can… Continue

While in Boise, Idaho, I ran across Dr. Daniel Bruce and his practice, Boise Downtown Dental. After looking over Dr. Bruce's Web site, I decided to ask him some questions about it. I plan for this to be the first in a series of interviews I do with dentists around the country on how they are using their Web site in their practice's marketing plans.
You can check out his Web site at http://www.boise-dentist.com

Anybody out there have an opinion on the unlicensed horse dentists in Texas who are literally overdoing equilibration on horses teeth to the point of damage and pain. Enamel doesn't grow back as we know and a bit rubbing on sensitive teeth is uncomfortable and can ruin even a excellent horse.

I recently attended a New Year’s dinner and, as introductions were made, a lady overheard that I was a dental magazine editor. Now usually when people hear that I work in the dental industry, they have one of two reactions…
1. Smile, nod, and politely excuse themselves
2. Tell me a story (good or bad) about their current or former dentist.
This lady chose the second path.
“Let me tell you about my dentist,” she said. “I call him Dr. Tricky.”
Now with… Continue
