This article titled "5 things that will make you happier" from MSNBC News on Twitter caught my eye the other day. I read it and tweeted about it. Scientists have argued that happiness is largely determined by genetics, health, and various factors beyond our control. But a psychologist named Sonja Lyubomirsky from the University of California, Riverside, says part of our happiness "is within our power to change."

Woman regains sight through a procedure involving an implanted tooth

A 60-year-old Smithdale, Miss., woman — Sharron “Kay” Thornton — who had been blind for nine years now can see, thanks to a rare procedure in which surgeons implanted a tooth in her eye to hold a prosthetic lens in place. Dr. Victor L. Perez, a corneal specialist, performed a series of surgeries that involved implanting one of Ms. Thornton's teeth in her eye. The surgery was performed at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Stem cells may improve the adaptability of dental implants

A procedure using stem cells may provide a more thorough regeneration of periodontal tissue around dental implants, according to a new report published in the Journal of Oral Implantology.

Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth, but an implant’s ability to react to patient growth, pressure from chewing, and future orthodontic work is diminished if it is not surrounded by sufficient periodontal tissue.
