On another note: In 1998 I think or '99- my co-worker and I tried to start a local society in our area. it started out very well but then it just died. I am in the Aiken SC area and the dental assistants just didn't seem interested. I thought about trying again, but my schedule is so full............ I don't know......??

In Japan, the hygienist and assistant are both called assistant and there seems to be a blurring of the lines in the roles there. When I hit the IDS show in Cologne, Germany, the trade show is full of dentists, but you rarely see any hygienists or assistants. It's definitely different than the U.S.!
