I wish much success for AAOSH. Don’t you?

Is there anyone who doesn’t want the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health to succeed? The association hosted its annual session in St. Louis, and the muted enthusiasm continues for dental professionals desiring a stronger relationship with the medical community and trending health-care policies.I use the term muted above because I’m not really sure much enthusiasm can realistically be expected when listening to “Fusobacterium nucleatum: An oral commensal-turned pathogen,” or “Introduction…See More

I'd like to pay at least $5 for my dental treatment today

I happen to know a few people who quarrel over a bill. In one sense, I admire them, particularly when the bill contains a long list of surcharges that seem to border on insanity. The closest I come to any sort of eruption are hotel bills. Every governmental entity within 200 miles adds a tax to the bill viewed when I check out. For environmental reasons, the hotel leaves a little placard out asking if I would mind using the same towel twice. I use the same towel multiple times at home. Normally,…See More

The green button makes it work?

A book I recently checked off against my bucket list was 2000’s “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris. I have been trying to read books nominated for the Thurber Prize for American Humor (Sedaris won the award for this book in 2001). The book certainly has my recommendation for anyone seeking a belly laugh or two, but I want to briefly refer to a couple of quotes from it.The essays in “Me Talk Pretty One Day” come across as being biographical for the most part. There are many references to…See More

If we know of a dentist who misbehaves, will we also misbehave?

"It's just mean, it's spiteful and it's fodder for gossip."

The quote above appears in The Oregonian, and a Portland dentist said it. The doctor said as part of an argument for taking steps to conceal the identity of disciplined dentists.

Presumably, you have examined the public comments after any online news story. Regardless of how controversial the…

When a male hygienist retires ...

As the newspaper article (The Daily Iberian in Louisiana) points out, male hygienists are scarce. So newspaper articles about male hygienists retiring are even more rare.

So finding this farewell article for Kenneth Boudreaux was a pleasant surprise while recently culling journalistic references to the dental hygiene profession.…

A front row seat at Dental Home Day

Dental Home Day national volunteer coordinator Dr. Cavan Brunsden checks out the shined up smile of a happy patient.

You're not going to believe this, but I visited your MySpace page for a second the other day. I clicked on the link in Kevin's forum discussion "Are you on Facebook? MySpace...". I was scanning through your answers to the questions and noticed that Kevin and I were the last people to have made you laugh. Good to know! :-)
